Upcoming Dinner Program
In the Shadow of Diablo
Join us on Thursday, November 21st as local author and educator Dan Hanel walks us through the local history that inspired his four-part historical fiction book series, “In the Shadow of Diablo”. Each of his books revolves around a different chapter in local history, including the heydays of Byron Hot Springs and the Black Diamond Mines, the establishment of the largest winery in the world in Contra Costa County following the 1906 earthquake, and the life of John Marsh, a prominent figure in early California history who was brutally murdered after building an enormous stone mansion near Brentwood, which still stands today.

Fall 2024 “History Harvest”
This fall we’re excited to announce a new initiative, our first-ever San Ramon Valley “history harvest”. This is an opportunity for members of our community to bring forward materials of historical significance and have them digitally preserved by our staff, so that they can be permanently preserved and shared with the broader community.
Historical materials might include the following:
Photos
Slides
Maps
Letters
Documents
Audio recordings
Video recordings
Etc…
If you or someone you know has historically-relevant photographs, slides, documents, audio/film reels, or other old documents or materials from the San Ramon Valley that are in need of digitization and may be of interest to our group, please let us know. We will review the materials and determine the necessary steps to have the materials digitized.
Digital copies will be provided to the owner of the materials as well as retained by our group, with original physical materials returned to their owner after digitization.
Please contact us at [email protected] if you have materials you’d like to share, or would just like to learn more about the program.
NOW ACCEPTING ONLINE PAYMENTS
We are excited to announce that we are now offering online payment options! In addition to cash and checks, you can now easily pay for memberships, purchase dinner tickets, and make donations directly through our secure online payment platform.
Please visit www.srvhistoricalsociety.org for more information. Thank you for your support!
We’re always looking for feedback and new ideas from our members
Please email us at [email protected] with ideas for dinner speakers you’d like to hear from, local history topics you want to learn more about, suggestions for new commemorative plaques or online content, or anything else that’s on your mind.
